Recently, we told you about the latest FX Stage in London, the traditional trip for students and alumni of FX ANIMATION Barcelona 3D & Film School to major international audiovisual companies.
With this post, we begin a series to learn more about each of the visited studios. In this way, we will highlight the importance of FX Stage to get a close look at the reality of the sector and as a boost to access the job market. Let's get started!
Moving Picture Company: a titan in VFX
The first stop on our FX Stage in London journey was at Moving Picture Company (MPC), one of the most powerful visual effects studios today and responsible for some of the most amazing VFX in recent years, and those yet to come!
MPC's London headquarters are located in vibrant Soho, a neighborhood where other important studios, TV networks, and production companies can be found: ILM, RSA, Glassworks... a walk through these streets is a real adventure for movie and visual effects enthusiasts!
The students of FX ANIMATION Barcelona 3D & Film School had the opportunity to see up close how work is done in studios that have been responsible for the visual effects of sagas like Harry Potter, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Godzilla. MPC has also collaborated on the visual effects of Game of Thrones, quite an impressive list!

In recent years, Moving Picture Company has worked on the most spectacular special effects titles of the moment: The Martian, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, or Blade Runner 2049. Additionally, they work with Disney on transforming their animated classics into live-action, such as 2016's The Jungle Book.
Among MPC's awards for Best Visual Effects (VFX) are Oscars for The Jungle Book and Life of Pi, a movie for which the studio also received a BAFTA, just like Part 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
What is in production during the FX Stage in London? The highly-anticipated Shazam!, Detective Pikachu, Aquaman, the surprising Dumbo, or the new installment of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
At MPC with two alumniX from visual effects
As we mentioned regarding FX Stage in London, one of the best experiences we had was the reunion with our alumniX, they are a true example for current students!

At Moving Picture Company, our hosts were Ruben Hinarejos and Maybrit Bulla, who still have a strong connection with FX ANIMATION Barcelona 3D & Film School and showed us that their education led them to one of the most powerful VFX studios in the world. We also had the opportunity to see how the programs they use, as well as the work procedures, are exactly as we taught them at school.
How did they get here and what do the alumniX of FX ANIMATION work on at MPC? Ruben Hinarejos studied the Specialized Degree in VFX. His talent and training led him to be part of the production in the upcoming movie The Lion King as Crowd Technical Director.

On the other hand, Maybrit Bulla completed the Degree in VFX. She entered the industry a few months after finishing her degree and joined the VFX team of The Lion King directly. Specifically, she joined the crowds department, where she coincided with Ruben and Jordi Camps, another FX ANIMATION alumniX.
If you also want to work in visual effects and the audiovisual world, like Ruben, Maybrit, and Jordi, take the first step! Enrollments are open for the Specialized Degree in VFX (Houdini Official Training Center · Side FX) and the Advanced Master in VFX (Houdini Official Training Center · Side FX).
Currently, Houdini is the software most widely used in the VFX departments of major companies worldwide. The demand for professionals who master it is growing, as it is also making strong inroads in the video game industry. This is great news for Houdini artists!
From FX ANIMATION Barcelona 3D & Film School, we want to highlight that we are the only school in Spain certified by Side FX, developers of Houdini, for Visual Effects in the Colleges/Universities category. In fact, we are one of only 4 in Europe: this is a guarantee of rigor and experience!
