Festival Inauguración Nueva Sede FX ANIMATION en 22@ Barcelona

Grand Opening Festival of the New FX ANIMATION Headquarters in 22@ Barcelona

Yesterday was a very special day for FX ANIMATION and for all of us who are part of it. After a tough summer of hard work, preparations, and stress, all against the clock typical of a suspense movie, FXANIMATION was able to open its doors to celebrate the inauguration of its new headquarters.

This change is undoubtedly a huge step in the school's adventure for many reasons. Not only does it consolidate its position as the best post-production, effects, and 3D school in the country, but also marks the beginning of its journey as a film school. And for this reason, FX has moved to where all the audiovisual and film-related companies and producers in Barcelona are concentrated: the 22@ district of Poblenou.

The first day of the Festival for the Inauguration of the new headquarters was a day full of surprises and emotions, and above all, a meeting of audiovisual professionals, teaching staff, institutional figures, and students. This is one of FX ANIMATION's objectives: to become a reference meeting point for the audiovisual sector in Catalonia.

The day began with the welcome and presentation of the event by the owning partners and directors of the center, Fàtima Vilà and Xes Vilà, who explained the objectives, values, and educational systems of the school, one of the characteristics that differentiate it from the rest of the educational offerings. The school's immense set transformed into a spectacular auditorium.

Following the institutional welcome from the school by the District Councillor of Sant Martí, Josep María Montaner, and the presentation of the teaching and coordination team of the school, the activities, round tables, and masterclasses prepared for the attending students and guests began. First, we witnessed the round table: "The audiovisual industry in the 22@: Opportunities and immediate future," which included the companies Polford, Mediapro, Zoopa, BTV. The round table was moderated by Ramón Salabert Parramón (22@ Netawork BCN). It was a great opportunity to learn more about the environment in which the school's activities will take place and confirm that choosing the 22@ as the location was a success.

Next, we attended another round table: "Women in cinema," in which film director Judith Colell, producer Marta Figueras, actress Greta Fernández, and FX director Fàtima Vilà participated. Actor Santi Millán moderated a discussion aiming to dissect the reasons why women, nowadays, still do not have an equal role to men in many professional sectors, in this case, the world of cinema. The discussion also tried to shed light on this issue for the immediate future, providing keys to achieving this equality.

Afterward, there was a guided tour of the school's facilities and a brunch on the school's terrace.

In the afternoon, accompanied by tasty and ample popcorn, it was time for the masterclasses related to FX CINEMA, the school's new film area. The cinema area coordinator and professor Màrius Rubio was in charge of presenting the afternoon activities.

First, we enjoyed a production masterclass by Martín Samper, a school teacher and producer of the movie "El camí més llarg per arribar a casa" (2014), winner of the Gaudí Award. Martí revealed the secrets of the arduous journey that this small movie had to go through to raise its budget and finally be filmed.

Next, screenwriter and coordinator of the screenwriting area at FX Enric Rufas, nominated for the Goya Award twice for "Las horas del día" (2003) and "La soledad" (2007), explained the screenwriter's profession and his working method when facing a commissioned script, whether from a producer or a film director.

Then, Toni Mena, head of the school's post-production area, explained his experience as the post-production head of the short film "Timecode," winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Lastly, Carles Gusi, a director of photography with over thirty years of experience and responsible for the cinematography of films such as "Te doy mis ojos" (2003), "Celda 211" (2009), or "El niño" (2014), explained the cinematographer's profession and his experience working with some of the best national film directors like Álex de la Iglesia, Julio Medem, or Daniel Monzón.

End of an exciting, intense, and fun first day at our new headquarters.
