What is filmmaking?
Filmmaking or filmmaking is the complete process in which a film is created: from the original idea to being able to project the definitive result.
This creative filmmaking process has different stages. Depending on the type of production and budget, there will be specialized people in each of them, but the filmmaker must be able to decide or direct them.

The main phases of filmmaking are:
- Script creation: it is the original idea, the story that the filmmaker wants to bring to the screen. The scriptwriter's work lays the foundation for what will be the construction of the project.
- Preproduction: in this stage, both scripts (literary and technical) are included, as well as the planning to carry out the subsequent filming. In this phase, casting is done, and the project's needs are outlined, taking into account both the means and locations as well as time.
- Production and filming: it is the moment to carry out the filming of the movie, where the director films with their team. In this sense, production is key, as it will be responsible for providing technical material, sets, costumes, or coordinating the actors to be present on set.
- Editing and post-production: this is the stage where all the filmed material is processed and edited to create the story to be told. Post-production includes all the VFX, color grading, and sound work that the film requires, both technically and creatively.
After the creative filmmaking process, the steps for the distribution and exhibition of the film begin.
What is the Introduction to Filmmaking Course like?
The aim of the Higher Master's Degree in Film Directing at FX ANIMATION Barcelona 3D & Film School is for students to have a solid foundation in all phases of audiovisual production (script, preproduction, production, cinematography direction, acting direction, etc.) and learn everything necessary to be able to complete an audiovisual project from start to finish.

Thus, at the end of the course, they will be ready filmmakers to carry out their own productions, collaborate on different projects, or decide what they want their professional specialization to be with a Master's training. This will be possible because they will have knowledge of each part of the creative process and a global vision of what filmmaking is.
One of the strengths of the course is that there is a theoretical foundation that underpins the training program, but learning is through real practice. Throughout Introduction to Filmmaking, students will develop practice on audiovisual projects on set and a final short film project step by step.

The course is aimed at film and audiovisual communication students, but also other careers such as humanities, who have interest in filmmaking.
Over 5 months, they will delve intensively into this field, with very personalized classes due to being small groups. This, together with the practical orientation of the course, guarantees solid learning with tangible results.

The next Higher Master's Degree in Film Directing at FX ANIMATION Barcelona 3D & Film School starts on February 4th. Classes will be held from Monday to Wednesday from 7pm to 10pm and will last 5 months. During this time, you will be able to take your first steps as a filmmaker: are you ready to take them with us?
