The Oscar ceremony took place last night. From FX ANIMATION, as every year, we were very attentive to the event, although this time more so than usual. Our Alumnix Francesc Bolló is part of the visual effects team for the film Dune, a nomination for which the film ended up taking home the long-awaited award.
It is not the first time that Bolló's work has been rewarded with an Oscar. Since finishing his studies at FX, he has participated in major productions such as Guardians of the Galaxy, The Jungle Book, or 1917, awarded for Best Visual Effects in 2015, 2017, and 2020. Hard work, effort, and enthusiasm reflected on screen earn recognition in the form of a statuette, and from our school, we are proud to see how people who have trained with us showcase their talent around the world.
Dune: a production full of difficulties
Three companies involved, 400 people working to create spectacularly realistic scenarios out of nothing, and among all of them, Francesc Bolló was one of those responsible for bringing to life the film's iconic sand.
The post-production work of Dune was affected by the Covid-19 wave, suffering the consequences of the global lockdown: staff reductions and difficulties with the release date. Originally planned to be seen on the big screen in December 2020, we had to wait almost a year to enjoy this visual masterpiece in which Bolló was a part of.
Francesc Bolló during his time at FX ANIMATION
During his time at our school, Bolló specialized in VFX, taking our Master's Degree in Visual Effects VFX. He graduated in 2013, and soon joined the world of the film industry, working at MPC, a major company with which he participated in numerous audiovisual projects.
Currently, we are fortunate to have him at our facilities. Recently, he has become part of our associated production company, SeñoraX, and we are confident that in the near future we will dedicate a section to him again.
Francesc, from FX ANIMATION, all that's left for us to say is... Congratulations on the Oscar, and on your incredible work in Dune! On to the next one!
